Mad_Dog and ronj let me tag along today. What fun!
We left a car at Narada Falls then commuted up to the Paradise lot. Not too many cars there at 9am. The new guy (me) had his skins on at the car and was ready to tour...when "hey man, you don't need those...now, but don't put them back in the car...cause you're going to need them later..." A'hem, it's been a while for me.
So we scooted down to 4th Crossing and then skinned up Mazama Ridge and south around "Mazama Knob" (I just made that name up) which took us into Birthday Bowl. We skied a run in the chowder, survived it and therefore decided that the day was on.
Skinned back up to the ridge above B-day Bowl and after a quick stability check dropped off the south side of the ridge into??? Behind Back Beyond Bowl or something like that...correction please.
Cool area here. Paradise just continues to unfold and reveal more terrain. Had some nice turns in on south aspect, but as we traversed over to an east aspect things got a little crusty and we chunky fellows began to dig in and get hung up. Biffff! I left my mark in the impressionable snow. Ron got out of his crater and covered it up before Jeannette could catch wind of the fall. I saw though and am dutifully reporting it here in this repository of truth and purity called TAY. The record is etched in stone.
The petite Ms. Morrison managed to remain afloat above the grabby crust and took great pleasure in pointing out that our flailings were directly related to our self-imposed girth. I gave her my day old donut at the end of the day as I've sworn them off for good, again. Ron, you can take of yourself.
Our tour then took us sightseeing for future skiiable terrain while on our way to open glades off Mazama down to the Stevens Canyon Road. Nice lines in here and the best skiing of the day. It's always great to be with route finding pros who know where the goods are. Thanks again
Once we hit the road it was a great pleasure to turn left and head downhill, making the run to the drop car at Narada.
All in all a great day with lots of variation, including some filtered sun, some chance encounters with old friends and a few nice turns thrown in. I think pics are on their way...

Back of Beyond Bowl - I think "Rainier" Gary named it... at least that's where I first heard it called by than name.
Here's a shot of the Jibber
and the MadDog
both having their way with far better snow than we expected judging from the recent weather and the meager dusting that had occurred over Saturday night.
We just keep learning "ya just gotta go look" ::)
