This day was very bitter sweet for me. It was a gorgeous day and the snow was looking good, but as soon as I reached the steep part of the climb my skins started globbing horribly. I pushed on as far as I could, but without wax it was almost pointless. No one I talked to had wax either so I was forced to ski down about a third from the top. So that was the bitter and now for the sweet. The turns were awesome!! NE aspects in the trees had soft dry powder and the lower east facing open areas were sun baked soft without being sticky. Although I didn't make it to the top I was happy with the turns I had. When I got back to the truck the clouds started to roll in, bringing hopefully more fresh snow this week.
Jake's rocks, man.  That rolling terrain has such great flow, surfing down through the spaced manzanita trees as Emerald Bay gets bigger with every turn.  Jake's is on the short list of the best roadside tours in the country.
