Locals seem to consider Mt. Tallac one of their finest tours, and we were fortunate enough to get it on a superb day, just before a storm is due tomorrow with 8000' rain level. After a great night's sleep at the low elevation of Carson City (4500'?) and being away from my terazosin prescription (which seems to cause nasal congestion, what say you Larry and Clem?) I felt really great this morning.
Met Ben and Dave at their place in S. Lake Tahoe at 9, grabbed a cuppa joe and reached the trailhead at 9:30. Wore the spring shirt since it started out fairly warm in the sun, then had a nice little breeze on the ridge east of the summit, with the track taking frequent direction changes to climb. This allowed me great joy at actually being able to keep up with the kids due to their fat skis and fritschis and my skinny dynafit setup with waxed skins. For the final 600' to the summit the breeze got much stronger as the bad weather was obviously beginning to arrive.
Had lunch with a solo skier who had lapped the north bowl, then a nice chat with a strong couple, one of whom was on Sugar Daddys with fritschis!, before they headed down. We enjoyed two foot deep powder with lake views at first, then well spaced trees on the northeast aspect of the ridge we had climbed (may be locally called the corkscrew variation?) again with two foot powder.
Back at Ben's we enjoyed viewing the photos, listening to bluegrass music, and eating Tallac Lemon Tart from Trader Joes. Tomorrow looks to be a day to visit the Patagonia Outlet and Sierra Trading Post in Reno. Sounds like there is good skiing to be had around Baker now, maybe time to head home?

Glad you had a nice day on Tallac. A couple years ago, Jill and I summited Tallac on a sunny, windless day with about 8" powder. The summit views certainly are beautiful of Lake Tahoe and Desolation Wilderness. We also descended The Corkscrew.
We drove back Saturday. Looks like a powder day starting Tuesday in the PNW. ;)

Nice work Silas. I could see all the tracks in the north bowl from where I was on Jakes and it looked awesome. It looks like you had a good trip to Tahoe, all the cool spots around the lake and the good snow to go with it.
