Climbed and Skied the West Face of Hunt Peak on Monday. This was a possible first ski descent.
Eli and I snowmobiled in from Priest Lake to the Camel's Prairie Warming Hut. We climbed on a foot of fresh snow into echo bowl and then ascended the 40 degree slopes above the bowl. We had to boot pack for the last 300 feet to gain the ridge. A short hike along the ridge led to kicking steps up the summit pyramid for lunch and a break. Total elevation gain was 1900 feet. The snow on sunny aspects was beginning to turn into mashed potatoes, so we began the descent. The snow was pretty warm and slow, with a thick ice layer below. Steeper slopes led us back into Echo Bowl and a short hike to a large boulder field. 800 feet of fun turns through giant boulders led back to the sleds.
