Slot Coulier Almost? was created by khyak
Okay toured up South rige of Snoqualmie Mt. with the intention of doing the slot coulier. Unfortunately I think we may have been a little low for the slot. From the South shoulder we toured across the west face just below the top rock/cliff section. We went all the way across to what looked like a slot, but the entrance was too hairy for us. Looked like if we could negotiate the first 20 feet to skiers right we would be okay. Unfortunately looked a little too firm to risk life and limb.
The slot had a small ridge in the middle after you dropped in then curved away to the right. Does this sound right? The next slot just west and a little lower was super narrow with just room to straightline between the rocks and down into oblivion or somewhere. Did we need to climb further up after we traversed the west face? Any help would be appreciated. All in all pretty good touring conditions. We were on the south shoulder about noon and the snow was softened up about 3 inches. Came down the Phantom. Pretty darn soft, but skiable. Wish we could of had a Northerly descent.

That certainly sounds like you were in the right spot. The one to the west is not it. That was probably the end to the NY gully climbing route. The small ridge is the start. Then it start down to the right then doglegs to the left into the main section. Look at the pic's posted by other's on this site.

Descending from the summit, the Slot is the first couloir you can ski right into. If you're really unsure and won't just commit and take the chance of having to climb out, then go over the saddle to the west, and it looks like this from below:

Can't miss it!
Now everybody go ski the Slot! I want it to look like a mogul run next week!

Like nickc says, there is a "small ridge", but it's not in the couloir, it's on the left side of the entrance, very sharp, extending out of the mountain. To get to the entrance you have to push through a few dense shrubby conifers. The entrance isn't really any steeper than the rest of the thing, so it sounds like you weren't quite there...
