Expectations were very low for good skiing at Meany Lodge, but those who went were rewarded with some excellent lightly crusted soft snow, and as long as you stayed out of the icy tree areas it was all smiles. In fact what motivated me to post this is, in part, to illustrate how wrong/lucky we can sometimes be when it comes to the ski conditons.

Several inches of new snow had fallen during the week, but as we all know it warmed and then rained. We arrived on the snowcat in the dark on Friday night with a cold rain falling and were not optimistic. We expected an unskiable ice crust. But one run the next morning in the low angle sun and it was clear that it had been not too cold, nor too warm in the night, and that the snow depth was also just right. Any colder, or more rain and the crust would have hung us up, much deeper and the snow would have been too thick for the effortless turns we enjoyed. We all deserve some Goldilocks conditions once in a while.
