Crown Point/Pickhandle Gap - 1.26.09
« on: 01/28/09, 11:19 PM »

Kyle and I headed out hoping for the possibility of something to ride.  We originally had thoughts that a clear day may provide enough sun to warm the snow?  Not so much.  However, windblown leeward when it's 5-6" on crust turned out to be pretty decent.  We had a bit of sloughing, but surprisingly not as much as we had expected.  There were pockets of fresh on other slopes, but W-NW were the best.  Anything else you'd be chancing some ridiculous ice skating.  I definitely wouldn't of minded having ski crampons on for the approach.  Good photo op day.  Surprisingly, considering the dry spell, decent powder day too.

Pictures on their way...Kyle, you got some?

Edit: Photos added

Love that shot looking down into Morse Creek.  That south facing slope is a favorite Spring corn run accessing it from our side of the hills.  Thanks for the look over at Mesaschie Cr.  For some reason I don't seem to have any photos in that direction and was curious what the terrain looked like over there.

Who'd have believed that third one would have even been possible.

Wow, you guys know how to find it. I was out in the Morse Creek Drainage on Sat, 24th and found only breakable crust and survival skiing. Nice work
