Cement Basin/East Peak - Crystal Slack - 1.3.09

It was good.  Really good.  Met some cool people along the way - Tony, Travis, Bob and his crew.  Ran into Eli.  But for as many people as we saw hitting the beaten skin track up, we had empty caches of excellent snow.

We met three really great people (Gordy, Bonnie, and Kit) at the top and continued to get fresh tracks throughout the day with all of us riding together.  Truly a great day for turns and for company.  Special thanks from Dan to Bonnie for finding his ski! Wink  We pounded out a good up track and put some use on it.  Got some really nice runs.

Any stability issues?
I was inbounds and patrol bombed the S. Back til there were more craters than snow, did not appear to have too much move, only the very top layer in some spots.

We had no stability issues.  Like boot was saying in his tr, we approached the basin with extreme caution and after a number of tests, we were rewarded with some great turns.  We also nailed both the A and B slots/chutes on the E side of Cement Basin with great snow, surprisingly good stability, and freshies every time.

We've been talking with the patrol and they had been bombing S before, with no results except some fracturing.  I think their goal was to get the fractured stuff to slide, but even while they charged off the heli on Saturday, they told us upon check in that they hadn't had much activity.

Hey, good pics. I was at riding lifts on Saturday and saw tracks coming down East Peak, guess some of those were yours.
