Rallied it up to the ridge today... rangers @ the entrance were full of doom and gloom of serious avy potential. We were told to ONLY ride intermediate... NO sunrise, maggies, or hurricane. Got to the top and lo and behold, tons of tracks on sunrise.... so....we gave it a go! got in 5 runs, all in waist deep pow. Wonderful powder day, everyone was having a blast. we saw no slides... i love winter!
Similar experience at Paradise on the 24th. Doom and gloom from park staff. Snow certainly was unstable ( slabby, cracks, a whumpf or two ) but it wouldn't slide, even on steep slopes, no matter how hard I tried ( and I tried pretty hard ). Guess this is because the ingredients for instability aren't quite the same as the ingredients for avalanches.
