Excerpt:
Observations considering uncoordinated shoveling
Statistics and video analysis clearly show how
often rescuers stepped all over the top of the buried
victim as well as got in each other’s way, resulting in
diminished efficiency for excavation.
Onset of fatigue was rapid, and work was interrupted
for everyone while exchanging a shoveler. With increasing
burial depth, not all rescuers could be utilized.
