Due to the closure of MRNP, Schwerkraft and I were forced to get creative. We left Seattle on Friday, and bivied on a FS road just W of Hood. Saturday was clear and not too cold, so after a sweet buffet breakfast at the lodge, we took a single liftride up to the top of the Palmer. We then meandered our way up the Hogback; our summit plans were nixed due to funky icy slopes. The run down to the snowfield was a fun mix of firnspiegel, manky ice, and pseudo-corn, and then chopped up groomers to within 200 yrds of the Lodge. Not as epic as some other Novembers, but worth the drive for sure.
Way to get it done!
Nice! I was thinking about making it up that way but didn't get around to it. The fresh snow line's pretty far up the mountain right now - won't be that way for long though ;)
