2 August - Alpental Basin

No, I didn't go skiing in Alpental, but I took my son hiking up to Snow Lake, and I was surprised how much snow is still hanging around.  It looked like Upper I might still be skiable, although it looked heavily suncupped across the valley.  You'd have to carry skis as far as Source Lake, but it looked like you could ski from there up the Chair Peak Basin, with perhaps a short portage or two higher up.  The snow there looked much better, although it's still got tons of debris on the surface.  On the Snow Lake side, there's more snow than not on the north side of the divide, but no skiable terrain that I saw.

All together I wouldn't go ski the Alpental Basin, unless you really want to brag that you skied Alpental in August.  But it definately could be done without too much hassle.
