Was watching the weather during the last front and noticed that the front was colder up north.  My friend Mike confirmed that the snow line in Howe Sound was about 1,500 ft. during the storm.
With nothing to lose, Jim and I left B'ham early today to meet Mike and two friends at Horseshoe bay.  Beautiful day up north.  Cold and clear.
After an hour approach to Red Feather Meadow from the Diamond Head parking lot, we found a fairly stable, dense snow pack.  The snow was quite nice once you figured out how to ride the dense surface layer.  Smooth gs turns while keeping the tails carving around.  Made several 600 ft. runs off of Paul ridge.  Lots of skiers out enjoying the conditions.  Lower angled slopes carried momentum quite well.  Very little penetration and good glide.  It was spring corn with dry powder.  It was a nice change to be able to ride the low angled  undulations, draws, gulleys and glades.  We all thoroghly enjoyed the sunshine, lovely turning and the great company.  It was also a pleasant surprize to find decent snow after such a warm weather system. ;)
