Four of us did the Fryingpan for the first time on Sunday. Cool hike thru the woods, and once on snow the breeze across the snow kept us even cooler. Snow was surprisingly good - firm with a few inches of corn on top. Significant sun-cupping only below the shelter to the bridge. A little slow, but skiable all the way down to the bridge - including side-slipping thru an avalanche debris field. Apparently unusual for this time of year, but given the snow cover we were also able to ski a few long stretches thru the trees coming down. As others have mentioned, it's quite a trek though - we didn't hurry so our ascent was very long.
Thanks to Saturday's skiers - we had an idea of the normal route down but your tracks helped us find our way with ease.
The route is good for a while yet - bring lots of water, and enjoy!
