June 4, 2008, Snoqualmie Pass
« on: 06/04/08, 12:50 PM »

Eager to see if we could ski powder at the Pass in June, KingWilliam and I scurried up Snoqualmie Mountain this morning. The phantom's no longer skiable, but a handy sling makes life easy. Booting up worked easily on the consolidated snow - we only removed our skis on the down to pass by the phantom. We found new snow above ~4.4k, with as much as ~3" wet new atop softer semi-saturated snow (the sum is ~boot-top when booting). Clouds obscured our view into the north facing lines, so we were unwilling to drop in. Work and inexorable sunlight forced us to head down.

The ski down was fun. In places, the new could be made to sluff/slide atop the old with aggressive ski cutting, but the sluffs hardly ran any distance.  We felt quite comfortable with the state of things; things are probably different now with sunhit.

Fabulous skiing for June 4 at the Pass!
