After a long week Lucas and I tried to get out and decided to do colchuck peak. We both had commitments Friday so we left as soon as possible after them, trying to take advantage of the decent weather before it went to crap. We left the car in boots at 7:00 pm and camped at the pond juxtaposed to the lake by aid of headlamp. After a leisure morning we headed up the colchuck glacier. Above the glacier we were greeted with biting winds and it soon became socked in. We booted to the summit (should have taken skis snow would have been excellent) and then skied the glacier, back down to camp. Snow was soft and heavy, but good to ski. Weather deteriorating, we aborted the plan for additional runs and an extra night at camp, and headed out. Photos: Booting up to the summit; Lucas making turns on the glacier.
There are patches of bare spots until the last foot bridge (1 k from the lake). Lucas dealt with the bare spots on skis while I booted. Road still snowed at 8 mile TH, but not for long as many others have noted.
