Hi all ;)
As of yesterday the Backcountry skiing Snoqualmie book is available again. The current website adress is "backcountryskiingsnoqualmiepass.com". YUP, that is a mouthful, so we just aquired skitoursnoqualmiepass.com and that will be a valid way to get there as well soon.

Special thanks goes to Keith Karlick from Outdoor Research who built the website and Dan Nordstrom from Outdoor Research who generously provided the photo flight. While I am thanking people, I would like to thank also my guides (especially Ben Haskell) who provided great beta over the years. Many of the suggested updates and improvements are still to come.
We are not quite done with the website, but there is already more info there than there has been in the original book. I added almost 50 aerial photos that ought to get your imagination going. The current website adress is "backcountryskiingsnoqualmiepass.com". YUP, that is a mouthful, so we just aquired skitoursnoqualmiepass.com and that will be a valid way to get there as well soon.
Over the course of the last few years quite a few new areas have explored and additions to existing routes will be published over the course of the next few months. All the updates will be available for downloading as well.
See you in the mountains.(http://PASTEimageURLhere)(http://PASTEimageURLhere)

Title: Martin Volken's Hazard Evaluator scale!
Post by: ProGuidingService on 12/22/13, 05:11 PM
The Hazard Evaluator;
Hazard Evaluation in the context of skiing is a big topic and I have put a lot of thought into this.
Have a read.

High consequence decision-making is difficult. If time pressures are added to the process, life can become stressful very fast.
I am a mountain guide and guiding service owner and take a lot responsibility over other peoples’ lives. My particular profession involves risk to live and limb. The decision-making process lacks the comforting redundancies of a more procedural risk management process. Considering that there is always a residual risk in high consequence decision-making, the long-range odds are not stacked favorably for a professional mountain guide. I also had to come to terms with the fact that the average human does not process information optimally in a high stress situation.
The most tangible differentiator in my versus other profession’s risk management decision making schemes is that they often happen on a seemingly intuitive level, since the environment and general nature of the job do not lend themselves to procedural decision making. The situations often lack redundant safety measures. The time and place when procedural decision making fails and you have to make a lonely judgment call. This is when the following scale becomes interesting.....

Title: New Mountaineering Courses
Post by: ProGuidingService on 06/05/16, 10:29 AM

(http://www.proguiding.com/tripreports/newsletter-mountaineering-course-participants][img width=600 height=800]http://lghttp.25693.nexcesscdn.net/80B4C2/magento/media/wysiwyg/2016-6_Mtneering_1.jpeg[/img)

Hello!

Are you missing those mountains as the hectic summer schedule gets into full swing?

Here at Pro Guiding we were busy doing some spring cleaning, and thought it was time to reconnect with those of you who have taken one of our mountaineering courses.  There are some cool opportunities coming up, and we want you guys to know!

First off, many of you may be backcountry skiers or know a backcountry skier.  Yet, do you know how much a summer mountaineering course can do for your backcountry ski knowledge? It is a great opportunity to put the skis away for the summer, but not the lifestyle.

On that note, we want to share with you that we now have two new mountaineering courses!  They are similar to our North Cascades Mountaineering Course (http://www.proguiding.com/instructional-programs/alpine-climbing-courses/north-cascades-mountaineering-course.html) and our Mount Baker Mountaineering School and Summit Climb (http://www.proguiding.com/instructional-programs/alpine-climbing-courses/mount-baker-mountaineering-school.html), but they are shortened.  Maybe you took one of our courses five years ago and are feeling a little foggy on some of the basics?  Our 3-Day North Cascades Mountaineering Course (http://www.proguiding.com/instructional-programs/alpine-climbing-courses/3-day-north-cascades-mountaineering-courses.html)or our 3-Day Mount Baker School and Summit Climb (http://www.proguiding.com/instructional-programs/alpine-climbing-courses/3-day-mount-baker-mountaineering-school-and-summit-climb.html) is the ticket.  It’s the opportunity to refresh your memory without the time and financial commitment.

It is also great to share with those backcountry skiers complaining about the melting snow.  We are lucky up here in Washington—glaciers aren’t seasonal.  Although we will not be on skis, it is a place to learn or relearn crevasse rescue, rope skills, and glacier travel—all necessary for true ski mountaineering.

Whether you want a refresher or you think a friend may be interested, we want you as a Pro Guiding Client to get new and upcoming info about our courses.

We hope your summer is filled with adventure!
