The assembled pump/heater unit measures approximately 8cm X 10cm X 4cm. In these photos, the unit has been opened up like a sandwich, and the fuel bottle and battery pack are not shown. The fuel bottle can hold 240g of Jarvis JellyTM. Power is provided by 2 AA batteries to facilitate battery exchange with other devices (avalanche transceivers, digital cameras, headlamps, etc.).
In the first photo, taken from a 12 o'clock view, the pump and its controller can be seen, along with both the heating and pressurization chambers. The inflow and outflow tubes have been removed for clarity, but the flange for the former can be seen. Two microprocessors, one of which can be seen, control the system; they both run a proprietary operating system (JJinux) on Pentium II chips.
| In the second photo, taken from a 6 o'clock view, the heating and pressurization chambers are in the foreground, and the other tubing flange (leading toward skis) can be seen. In the background the control panel can be seen. Multiple settings for the delivery system can be stored in memory using the control panel, which also displays the current settings (temperature, flow rate) and vital statistics (pressure, fuel remaining, time remaining at current rate of consumption). The unit will be supplied with a remote control which provides similar functions and is wearable (shoulder strap, etc). |
