- Install CD-ROM on hard drive to increase performance:
Turns All Year CD-ROM contains mostly small files (almost 14,000 of them!) and so does not generally put high demands on computer speed. Newer computers should load the web pages from the CD-ROM at least as fast as from high-speed Internet. On older computers, with their slower CD-ROM drives, you might notice it takes some time to load a few very large pages, such as those containing large maps or slideshows. In this case, installing the CD-ROM on your computer's hard drive should provide a performance boost and significantly speed the loading of large pages. Using browser bookmarks is more convenient with the CD-ROM installed, as well. You are allowed to install the CD-ROM on three of your own computers. In testing, the CD-ROM was successfully installed on computers running Windows Vista, XP, and NT, and Macintosh OS 10.4.x, 10.3.x, and 9.2.2.
How to install Turns All Year CD-ROM:
- With the CD-ROM in your computer's optical drive, open the CD-ROM using your computer's standard procedure (e.g. Windows Explorer or Macintosh Finder) so that you can see its contents;
- Locate the folder "Turns-All-Year" and copy it to your computer's hard drive using your computer's standard procedure (drag-and-drop, copy-and-paste, etc.). The folder can be copied to your preferred location on the hard drive, and it will occupy around 500MB of disk space;
- To get started viewing the installed CD-ROM, locate the new "Turns-All-Year" folder on the hard drive and open it so that you can see its contents;
- Locate the file "Start-Here.html" and open it in an internet browser using your preferred method (drag-and-drop, double-click, single-click, etc.).
- Bookmark favorite pages:
Turns All Year CD-ROM contains a web site designed to be viewed with a standard internet browser. As for any web site, specific web pages in the CD-ROM can be "bookmarked" in your browser. Any page can be bookmarked, including individual slideshows, with the exception search results. Bookmarking favorite pages works especially well if you have installed the CD-ROM on your computer's hard drive, and the Home Page is a good one to bookmark.

- Maximize your browser window:
Maximizing your browser window to fill the entire monitor will enhance your viewing experience with Turns All Year CD-ROM, especially for slideshows.
- Learn mouse and keyboard shortcuts for browser's "Back" button:
The web site on Turns All Year CD-ROM is designed to have a very good navigation scheme, but, as for all web sites, your browser's "Back" button can be very useful nonetheless. In particular, in Best of... slideshow windows the clickable "Back" button is hidden for aesthetic reasons, but the "Back" command can be useful for these slideshows. As a substitute, many modern mice have an extra key already programmed to act as a browser's "Back" button, and most browsers have one or more keyboard shortcuts, such as "alt + left arrow" (Windows) or "apple + left arrow" (Mac), that send the "Back" command to the browser. In addition, the bar ("Button Bar" or "Toolbar" or "Address Bar") which contains the clickable "Back" button can often be toggled on and off (View menu [Mac] or the View or Tools menus [Windows]).
- Check pop-up blocker settings:
The slideshows on the CD-ROM use javascript pop-up windows. If your browser is set to aggressively block pop-up windows, or if you use some other pop-up blocker, it is possible that the slideshow pop-up windows will not work. More slideshow help.
- Adjust browser's font size:
Internet browsers can come with different default settings for the font size used in displaying web page text, and users can change those settings. If the text on Turns All Year CD-ROM looks too small or too big throughout the web site, you can easily increase or decrease the browser's display font size. Many browser windows have "larger" and "smaller" buttons in a menu bar, or keyboard shortcuts (+ or - with a modifier key), which you can use to quickly change the font size.
