Information about recent changes in the Washington State sales tax system:

Starting July 1, 2008, the state of Washington changed the way in which sales tax must be collected for in-state sales (out-of-state sales are still exempt from Washington State sales tax). Prior to this date, the state used an origin-based sales tax, which charged sales tax based on the location of the seller. Now the state is using a destination-based sales tax, where, "sales tax on shipped or delivered goods is based on the location of the purchaser."

Instead of a single sales tax rate (9.0%, based on the business location of Turns All Year) for CD-ROMs shipped to addresses anywhere within Washington State, there are now hundreds of sales tax rates, and these rates are subject to change every three months. This new sales tax system is a nightmare for very small businesses like Turns All Year that use payment processors such as PayPal, because there is no automated way to code for all of these different destination-based sales tax rates.

Sales taxes in Washington State are made up of two parts: the state sales tax, which is an invariant 6.5% throughout the state, and local sales taxes, which vary from 0.5% to 2.5%. The total sales tax rate for any given location is the sum of these two parts. For example, in Seattle the sales tax rate is 9.0% (state 6.5% plus local 2.5%), whereas in Stevenson, Washington, the sales tax rate is 7.0% (state 6.5% plus local 0.5%)

As a result, Turns All Year has decided to charge Washington State purchasers of the CD-ROM for only the 6.5% state portion of the sales tax. Turns All Year will pay the additional local portion of the sales tax due; your purchase invoice will show this amount but you will not be responsible for paying it.

Important information about Turns All Year CD-ROM:
  • License: Your purchase and use of Turns All Year CD-ROM is subject to your acceptance of the terms of the Turns All Year CD-ROM License Agreement (opens in a new window or tab). The License Agreement allows you to use the CD-ROM, and the photos on the CD-ROM, for private, non-commercial uses only. All commercial or public uses are prohibited.

  • Not a guide book: Turns All Year CD-ROM is not an electronic version of a traditional skiing and snowboarding guide book. There is no systematic attempt to provide detailed route descriptions, route maps, photos with routes indicated, GPS coordinates, or elevation profiles. More on this topic (opens in a new window or tab).

  • Computer operating system requirements: Turns All Year CD-ROM has been tested and found functional on Windows 98 through Vista, and Macintosh OS 9.2 through 10.4.10, using a variety of internet browsers (see below). The CD-ROM generally puts low demands on the computer's processor, and a fast new computer is not needed to successfully run the CD-ROM. On newer computers, CD-ROM pages will load very quickly. On significantly older computers, large CD-ROM pages containing maps or slideshows may load slowly, but this is often a function of the slow CD drives in these computers. The performance of the CD-ROM on any computer can be enhanced by installing the CD-ROM on the computer's hard drive.

  • Internet browser requirements: Turns All Year CD-ROM contains a web site which is intended to be viewed using a standard internet browser (such as Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari, etc). The design of the web site has been kept simple, and any modern internet browser can access all of the features on the CD-ROM. Only very old internet browsers might not be able to run the javascripts for special features such as slideshows and searching. Additional information is available on internet browsers tested (opens in a new window or tab).
