St. Helens were created by putting together several individual images from scanned slides or digital photos, then balancing the images for contrast and exposure before stitching the overlapping edges to produce a seamless photo. Very wide panoramas are displayed as more than one image file to permit viewing of the entire panorama with various browsers and computer operating systems.
